Daily Sketches Vol 1, Part 1/3

Some months ago I decided to draw something every day. I found these little midtone sketchbooks with 20 pages, which I thought would be perfect for drawing little something on one page per day. Yee, there's more than 20 days in a month.. so is more accurately called "almost daily sketches", and also gave me some slack in case I wouldn't be able to draw quite every day..

So here's first part of the first sketchbook I filled. These drawings are from February and are drawn with markers and ink pen. And sketched with a red pencil mostly. And they may seem like finalized, fully rendered drawings... But anyway I still call them sketches.. :q

Next parts of February sketchbook will be posted following weeks! I divided this sketchbook in 3 parts so there wouldn't be a flood of drawings at once.. Let me know if you'd prefer to see all the 20 drawings (+cover) in one post so I will do it for the next month's drawings. And I apologize for the quality of the pictures.. I took photos of them with my phone as I was too lazy to plug in my scanner and scan them one by one... x__x Let me know if you wanna see some of them in better quality!

So here're the Random Animals of February 2015!

Second part of the February drawings will be posted next week! Stay tuned!

Cheers!

Animonday #1

This is the first ever Animonday! Woooo!

The what now?
Animonday is a Monday full of animals and/or animations! I made it up myself! Pretty clever, eh? :D
So from now on until I run out of animal drawings and/or animations I will be posting them here on Monday.

As a start, I would like us to learn some alphabets! So here begins the series of "Animals A to Z" which is a little project I set up for myself.
(Inspired by insanely talented person over here: http://anitagaughan.tumblr.com/ ) For this project I'll be drawing (almost) randomly  selected animals from A to Z, sketch them, learn some anatomy and animate them walking, running, swimming or flying or moving in some other way. Also I must say I may have cheated a bit selecting the animals as I wanted to draw certain animals and in order to fit them all in the list I used English and Finnish names, some general names of the species and some more detailed names of the species... Buuuuut anyways, here we goooo to the amazing world of animals and alphabets!

A is for (Giant) Anteater!

Sketches drawn with black ballpoint pen and water colors on midtone paper.
Animation done in TVP.

I hope you have a great week guys!

Cheers!

Waking up the art blog

Wha-what is this? A new blog post? After 3 years of silence? How can this be possible! D:

Well it is. I am back! Well, technically I never went anywhere, I just didn't have anything decent worth posting here.. But now I have! Since last January I've been learning, practicing, trying and erring, drawing, sketching, painting, animating, who knows what I have done. But I've done a lot. And now has come time to publish all that! Not everything at once though.. Bit by bit but something for sure every week!

Back in the day I wasn't quite sure what to use this blog for.. My main gallery of art was, and still is, at deviantArt, so it seemed a bit pointless to post the same stuff here.. I didn't do much of sketching either so there was nothing decent to post here. So the blog kinda got forgotten.

But now this place will be revived! It will be my sketch blog mainly, though some of my "sketches" may look like finalized illustrations.. but are still sketches to me nevertheless. Or maybe I should just call them drawings.. with colors.. and fancy highlights.. Aaanyways, most of the stuff will be traditionally drawn sketches with some colors. Also there will be some rough animation tests and such. Just stay tuned!

I just realized I haven't prepared any of my pictures ready for posting.. A bit bumpy start.. *akward laugh and runs off to get some pictures ready*

Allrighty then!

Since today is a special day, not only because this blog is back in action, but mainly because today is me and my boyfriend's 5-year anniversary! So here's a couple of tigers being cute and fluffy as we are! ;3
Playing with markers on midtone paper.

So, here we are! Next week will be more art and less talk!

Cheers!

A little announcement

Long time since writing last time... again..
Well, I suppose I have a good reason for my lack of activity. I was insanely busy.. as I told in the last post. Then I went to Mexico for the Christmas and New year. (Which was awesome btw!) And well, now that I finally have some time to do my own things, I might as well update my blog.

In fact, I'm just here to announce that very soon I will be posting the English translation of my thesis (Animating big cats) here. Or not the whole thing, just the most interesting and useful parts, in other words the animation sheets and example animations of the most common movements of big cats. Which I hope will be useful for someone. If not, well, I'll just put them here for my own amusement..

Meanwhile here's something I've been doing lately..

First of all, a little Valentine's day gifty for my beloved one. <:3 Probably one of my best works so far..

And then just playing again with Toon Boom... A little lynx animation, based on one of the movement studies I made for my thesis.

Long time no ocean

Woo, it's been a while since the last post.. :q I've been kinda busy...

So much has happened in these few months... I made my thesis, went to Mexico (to meet my honeybun<3), graduated, got a job for the summer as "a teacher", started in an actual job as an animator, then got asked back to school to teach again.. and here I am.. Being busy as a bee by working my ass off in two places.. :q Just to get some money to go back to Mex again.. :3

About my thesis.. Can't remember if I've mentioned it earlier.. but it was about animating big cats.. You can find it here: https://publications.theseus.fi/handle/10024/33082
Sorry peeps.. only in Finnish for now.. but I suppose the pictures (animation sheets and such) will tell more than any word in that text.. xP Hopefully I will translate it (or the just the best parts) into English soon so it might be helpful for some others as well and not just those who can understand Finnish.. :P
Also there're the example animations of the movements I studied, they might be interesting for someone too... (You need to download the files.)

And here's a little something just for fun:

I was just testing Toon Boom.. And man.. I love doing 2D! <3___<3 I wish I had more time to do it...

Also my short film Lunchtime (see my last post) will be presented in Animatricks animation festival in Helsinki in October. http://www.animatricks.net/2011/index.php?page=uudet-kotimaiset-ii
The film will take part in competition.. and the first prize is 1000€.

As I said, atm I working on two jobs.. as a teacher in my old school (teaching about storyboards and stuff at the moment, and about animation later..)... Also I work at Anima Vitae, a Finnish animation studio, where I work as a junior animator on a tv-series. And which is quite fun, much more fun than teaching for I'm really am not a teacher.. xP I only said yes because they asked me, and also 'cause I need money.. :q In other hand is not too bad to do two jobs.. bad thing is that I'm just insanely tired all the time.. and I work so long days that I don't really have any freetime.. only few hours in the night before going to sleep.. :q

And just for fun.. here're some more tigers.. :3 Made for my own tiger.. ;3
